Cuban literacy method "Yo si puedo" graduates first students in Saint LuciaHAVANA, Dec 2 (ACN) With the Cuban literacy method "Yo si puedo" (Yes, I can), 27 students from Saint Lucia received their degree as graduates after completing the first pilot phase in the application of this educational option on the Caribbean island.

The ceremony, held at the Financial and Administrative Center of Castries, the country's capital, was an emotional day for the graduates, who along with their families and friends, demonstrated that it is possible to change and transform through knowledge and education.
The government of Saint Lucia was represented by Ministers Gale T. C. Rigobert, Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development; Sarah Flood Beaubrun, Foreign Affairs; and Dominic Fedee, Tourism, Information, Culture and Creative Industries.
The Cuban side was represented by Ambassador Alejandro Simancas, as well as PhD Jorge Tamayo, national advisor in Cuba for the "Yes I can" program, and Daimarelys Verdecia, from the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Education.
In her speech, the local minister of Education highlighted the result of this joint work and acknowledged the dedication and effort of the Cuban specialists, and called on the graduates not to stop at this point and continue improving themselves for their personal growth, that of the community and of the country.
Meanwhile, the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission thanked the St. Lucia government authorities and reiterated his government's willingness to continue contributing to its social and educational development through the national extension of the " Yes I can " program.
This program was born on March 28, 2001, and since its creation has been successfully implemented in Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti and Colombia, among other nations.
