HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) Cuba's film week in the Republic of Serbia kicked off today in Belgrade, the capital, with the exhibition of the film Lucia, one of the icons of Cuban cinematography, directed by filmmaker Humberto Solas in 1968.
The opening ceremony took place in the Jugoslovenska Kinoteka (Yugoslav Cinemateca) with the participation of the Cuban ambassador to that country, Gustavo Trista del Toro and other guests, Prensa Latina reported.
Humberto Solas was (December 4, 1941-September 18, 2008), one of the most outstanding Cuban filmmakers who rose with the birth of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) in March 1959, two months after the triumph of the Revolution on January 1.
The week's schedule will include the screening of Jorge Luis Sanchez's El Benny (2006), Fernando Perez's Clandestinos (1987) and Habanastation (2011).
The day will conclude next Friday with several short films, documentaries and a selection of editions of the Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano, as well as the film La Bella del Alhambra (1989), by Enrique Pineda Barnet.
