European Union Youth Orchestra to perform in Cuba

European Union Youth Orchestra to perform in CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) Celebration is the title of the unique concert that the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) will offer on November 22 at 8 p.m. in Havana Cathedral dedicated to Havana on its 500th anniversary.

Alongside the EUYO, a group that gathers talented young musicians from all the Member States of the European Union (EU) and one of the world's most prestigious symphony orchestras, conducted by Emily Davis, the University of the Arts (ISA) Symphony Orchestra, affiliated to Havana's Mozartiano Lyceum, will also perform conducted by Jose Antonio Mendez.
This fusion will be an exceptional opportunity to appreciate on stage the performance of more than 70 musicians in a program combining works by renowned European composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Erwin Schulhoff and Ralph Vaughan Williams, with pieces by Cuban authors such as the renowned Moises Simons and the young Jenny Peña.
As part of the agenda that this renowned European orchestra will complete in Cuba, a group of its members will receive a Cuban percussion workshop at ISA.
This first EUYO visit to the Caribbean country has been made possible thanks to the European Union Delegation in Cuba, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Office of the City Historian, the Havana Mozartiano Lyceum and ISA.
As stated in its mission, it is "an orchestra united by a shared sense of European heritage, innovation and the constant quest for excellence", and specialist critics do not hesitate to acknowledge the technical prowess of its musicians, as well as the energy and passion they exhibit in their performances.
