HAVANA, Cuba, May 29 (ACN) With deep sorrow the Holguín population said their last farewell to the last victims of the plane crash that occurred 10 days ago near the José Martí International Airport in the capital city.
Of the 110 immediate victims of the incident, 67 resided or were from the Holguin municipalities of Gibara, Calixto García, Cacocum, Urbano Noris, Cueto, Mayarí, Banes and the provincial capital.
The first bodies were brought to their respective places on Sunday the 20th, after their remains were identified at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Havana, two days after the tragic event, when the Boeing 737-200 plane that covered the route between the José Martí and Frank País airports fell to the ground.
At all times, the families of the victims were accompanied and supported by the people and the main leaders of each territory.
Minutes after the news was confirmed, the highest political and governmental authorities of the province activated an Extraordinary Command Post in the airport to make the actions demanded by the event viable, with the presence of Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martín, member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee and deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
From those moments onwards, working groups were set up comprising the different provincial and municipal bodies of Holguín, which visited the homes of the deceased, conveying their condolences to the families and adopting measures to deal with the cases that required it and helping to make the wake processes viable.
Everywhere there was a feeling of solidarity and respect for all for the sudden death of children, siblings, neighbors and school or work colleagues, including children, adolescents, young people and parents.
In each case, the families of the deceased and the population attending the funeral homes and other wake areas were accompanied by the highest political and governmental authorities in the territory, headed by Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province of Holguín.
The whole province joined in this deep sorrow. Medical assistance to the victims' families has been permanent, as have the joint and very coherent actions of all government entities in charge of the care of the victims' families in the territory of those affected by the traumatic accident.
A report published this Sunday by the ACN underscores that despite the complex work involved, due to the trauma caused by the fall of the aircraft and the effects of the heat and flames, the absolute identity of each of the fatalities was established on Saturday night.
The media reported that the details were presented at a press conference by Sergio Rabell Piera, director of the Institute of Legal Medicine, who highlighted the joint work of the institution's forensic experts, the Ministry of Public Health, the Directorate of Criminalistics and other combined forces of the Ministry of the Interior and the data provided by relatives of the deceased.
