HAVANA, Cuba, May 24 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Council of State and Ministers, had an exchange this Thursday with some of the artists who participated in the Festival of the Arts of Cuba at the Kennedy Center and at the last Summit of the Americas in Peru.
The meeting took place at the La Plaza Cultural Center on 31 and 2, and was also attended by Abel Prieto Jiménez, Minister of Culture; Marcelino Medina, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (MINREX), as well as other officials from both ministries.
Díaz-Canel affirmed that this is a more than official, sentimental recognition, to thank all the artists on behalf of the Government, the Party and the people in general, for having demonstrated the strength of their identity in a very committed and creative way.
He added that one element to highlight is that many of them have been trained or contribute to the training of others in the Schools of the Artistic Education System of the country, and are a proof of the quality of this system that we defend at all costs, he ratified.
He stated that art is an irreplaceable form of communication between peoples, and these two experiences demonstrated that in a scenario of open conflict such as Peru, or in an equally challenging one such as Washington D.C., "you demonstrated that we can live together in peace in spite of our differences".
He commented that they are preparing a summary program to show all the materials they have collected on television so that the Cuban people can jointly appreciate what happened at the Kennedy Center.
He also proposed to prepare a show that would bring together what happened on both stages to be presented at a kind of festival in Havana, where American artists could perhaps be invited.
Irene Rodriguez, director of the dance company of the same name, said that after opening curtains in Washington the audience began to applaud in such a way that they felt as if they were in the Gran Teatro de La Habana.
Elito Revé, director of the Charangón, and other members of the orchestra that put the whole of Lima dancing at the People's Summit, assured that the success was due to the unity of all those present, and that the preparation provided by the companions of the MINREX was very fruitful.
Alexis Triana, head of Communication at the Ministry of Culture, praised the active participation of the Cuban Ambassador to the United States, José Ramón Cabañas, who was in charge of tweeting all the closings of shows in order to replicate the public's response to the face of contemporary Cuba.
The Festival of the Arts of Cuba took place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, where from May 8 to 21 it showed a representation of the best of the music, dance, theater, plastic arts and cinema of the Caribbean country, among other manifestations, and will be recessed until June 29, when it will resume until June 3 with performances by the Cuban National Ballet at the Opera House in the U.S. capital.
