HAVANA, Cuba, May 14 (ACN) Cuba will present a report on Wednesday as a follow-up to the elaborated recommendations, systematic statistics and summary of consultations carried out to different actors at the 30 th period of sessions of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Exam (UPE), a mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council.
According to Cubaminrex, the event, which began on Monday and will run until Friday will be key for 14 countries to show their advances in the sector before the international community in Switzerland.
The UPE is a unique process that implies a systematic revision of the human rights registry of the 193 UN member States.
These registries are held during the sessions of the Working Group, every three years in order for all countries to submit the analysis every four years and a half.
As a branch of the UN Human Rights Council, the UPE is based on equal treatment for all nations and coffers the opportunity to declare what actions have been taken on to improve the situations of each region in the world.
Cuban who is founding member of the Human Rights Council participated in the two previous UPE cycles, in February of 2009 and May of 2013.
Its participation in these forums generate great interests in nations in all continents that condemn the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US which is the main obstacle for the total enjoyment of human rights on the Caribbean island.
The final adoption of the final report will be held in September during the 39th period of sessions of the Council.
