HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (ACN) With more than 95,000 tons of sugar produced despite the effects caused by bad weather on the harvest, Villa Clara continues to grind in order to guarantee the basic needs of the people.
The last rains of April and early May forced the shutdown of several power stations in the province, a situation that threatens a higher production of sugar.
Jorge Luis Fundora, Zafra's Director of Operations in Villa Clara, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the territory is now some 3,000 tons short of guaranteeing a complete supply of sugar to the population.
Sugar mills as such as Ifraín Alfonso and Carlos Baliño, due to their enormous productive effort and stability in the milling process, supply a large part of the demand for crude oil destined for the basic basket of the territory, he said.
The official also pointed out that the refining plan in the province is 50 percent complete, and that it is vitally important to produce it while the plants grind the raw sugar to save fuel and reduce the costs of manufacturing the grain.
At the end of the harvest, George Washington and Quintin Banderas will continue with the production process of white sugar, in this last mill, a fuel oil boiler will be completed, which should be operational from the 15th, he said.
Among the refineries, Chiquitico Fabregat is stopped in the municipality of Remedios, to which the sugarcane biomass for fuel is distributed from industries José María Pérez and Ifraín Alfonso, in order to activate it as soon as possible, he said.
The sugarcane planting plans and other work related to this activity will partially compensate for the economic impact on both the company and the workers.
