HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 26 (ACN) The Indian government donated 60 tractors and other agricultural equipment, which will mainly be destined to support the 122 hectares of protected cultivations in the country.
Cuban Deputy Agriculture Minister, Ydael Perez Brito and India's ambassador to Havana, Tsewang Namgyal attended on Monday in Havana an official ceremony in which the implements, valued at five million dollars were handed over to the island's authorities.
Perez Brito thanked India for the donation and stressed that it will strengthen bilateral cooperation ties in the agricultural sector.
The Deputy Agriculture Minister told the press that the donation is an important technology as the tractors will be used in vegetable cultivation and in protected and semi-protected areas.
He pointed out that this will help produce food outside its season, in addition to improving yields.
Perez Brito highlighted the historic ties between both nations, which was promoted by the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and Indian leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
According to the Cuban official, the two nations have been pillars of the Movement of Non Aligned Nations and in this context both sides have defended important causes like the rights of the Palestinian people, while India has supported the lifting of the US blockade against Cuba.
In recent years, bilateral ties have acquired growing dynamics, characterized by the exchanges of high-level visits and valued that both sides are at its best moment regarding economic and commercial relations.
Perez Brito added that Cuba has received Indian credit destined to the construction of a powered milk plant and another for fertilizers in addition to the building of a windmill park among other projects.
Namgyal highlighted that the donation does not only constitute a symbol of the existing cooperation, but the desire to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
