HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 30 (ACN) The Cuban Palmares Company and the Mexican Group M signed, in this city, an agreement to open this year the first franchise of the bicentennial Cuban Floridita restaurant-bar in the Mexico City.
The contract, signed at the headquarters of the famous Havana establishment by Jorge Luis Acosta, general director of Palmares, and Lupe Ramírez Jiménez, owner of the Mexican gastronomic and hotel society, establishes the creation of a Floridita in a central location located about two kilometers away from the popular Basilica of Guadalupe.
According to Ángel Fernández Maillo, Palmares franchise director, the objective of this agreement is to ensure that the new replica is authentically Cuban, that is, that the staff working there, either chefs, bartenders, maîtres or others, will be from the island, or at least be prepared by them in Havana, he stressed.
We want to see, feel and smell Cuba a hundred percent, and keep its flavor in every way, said the architect Eduardo Gómez Zavala, director and also owner of Grupo M, a completely family business.
The idea is to replicate the Floridita, all its furniture, design, colors, facades and decorations in the future installation, which should be opened in the first half of this year, the executive said, in the presence of the workers of the popular establishment of Old Havana.
Other facilities in Palmares, such as La Bodeguita del Medio and Gato Tuerto, already have more than a dozen franchises in various countries, including Mexico, where other replicas of Floridita are soon expected, Fernández Maillo said.
The Floridita celebrated in 2017 the 200th anniversary of its foundation, with a competition of bartenders named The King of Kings, which attracted between October 4 and 6 more than a hundred bartender from several parts of the world.
