Havana, Cuba, Jul 4 (ACN) Canadian researcher and journalist Arnold August was granted on Tuesday at the Institute of Friendship with the People's (ICAP) the Friendship Medal on behalf of the Cuban people for his work in defense of the truth.
During the ceremony, the also sociologist and writer was grateful for the recognition and dedicated the medal to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
The President of ICAP and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando Gonzalez highlighted the importance of the Canadian solidarity movement in their struggle for the return of the Cuban Five, which August founded in Quebec.
August is member of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) and the Association of Intellectual, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity based in Caracas.
He currently collaborates as a journalist in Tele Sur, Cubadebate and Cubaperiodistas, in addition to other media outlets in Ecuador, Venezuela, Spain and Chile.
The Deputy Rector of the Higher Institute of International Relations and Hero of the Republic of Cuba Gerardo Hernandez and Ricardo Alarcon participated in the ceremony.
Arnold August commented, just days away from the 64th anniversary of the attacks against the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and Moncada Military Garrisons on July 26th, that Cuba "is and will always be an eternal Moncada in the context of the current fight to end the economic blockade and against cultural aggression".
