Santiago de Cuba, Dec 3 (ACN) The cradle of the Cuban Revolution, Santiago de Cuba, dawned on Saturday with the expectation of the arrival of the Caravan of Freedom carrying the ashes of Fidel Castro.
In the eastern city, people are getting ready to receive the funeral procession on its way to the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, where they will pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution
Virginia Fernandez corroborates the sentiment of her compatriots, stressing that without Fidel the pain is great, but with the security and commitment that "we are going to move on."
I'm going to wait up there on the Central Highway, near Quintero, near my house, because the Commander-in-Chief is the ideal of many of us and we have to be there, she said.
Dalia Rivero Guillen, a fourth year medical student, said that although she spent the night in the university in a vigil in honor of Fidel, she will be in the mass assembly at the square where more than 300 thousand people from Santiago and other eastern provinces are expected to represent the Cuban people.
In Santiago de Cuba the Revolution was born, what better place than here for Fidel´s ashes to rest, said Rivero Guillen.
She told ACN that it is a great honor for the people of Santiago that Fidel will be here along with the heroes who fought to consolidate social conquests for the people of the island.
Before saying goodbye, she said that Santiago will remain as the Commander said several times: rebel yesterday, hospitable today, and always heroic.
