HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 3 (acn) Delegations from Cuba and Hungary held a business meeting during the third day of the 34th edition of the International Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2016 by its Spanish acronym), which takes place at Expocuba fairgrounds in this city.
Omar Fernández Jiménez, Secretary General of Cuba´s Chamber of Commerce, said that the presence of Hungarian and Cuban entrepreneurs in this event corroborates the willingness of both sides to deepen contacts and develop economic relations in correspondence with the potentialities of each.
He also considered important the presence in the foreign delegation of sectors related to renewable energy, industrial machinery, energy facilities, and medical equipment.
The Cuban officials also mentioned tourism, computer science and telecommunications, agricultural machinery, construction industry and road construction, among others.
Fernández acknowledged the priority that promotion and capture of foreign investment currently have for Cuba, and in that sense stressed that the country has an attractive legal framework with significant guarantees to investors and a portfolio of updated investment opportunities.
The projects, he said, can be carried out both within Mariel Special Economic Development Zone and in the rest of the national territory.
After emphasizing how this forum constitutes another step towards strengthening the relations built since the birth of the Cuba-Hungary Business Committee in 2004, he pointed out; however, that bilateral exchange still does not reflect the existing potential to increase trade.
András Drexler, ambassador of Hungary in Cuba, noted that the interest in promoting economic relations between the two nations is now perceptible.
We still have not exhausted the possibilities of business and we hope that in this new context the search for new opportunities will be strengthened, Drexler confirmed.
Belkis Barnet Yzquierdo, an official of Cuba´s Chamber of Commerce, referred to the geographically strategic position of the Caribbean island to develop businesses and the facilities recently open to foreign investment.
Tamás Gyenese, president of the Hungarian section of the Business Committee, listed the more than 10 companies from his country present in the forum, and assured that the conditions are created so that they will attend FIHAV´s next edition with a bigger stand and twice the number of entrepreneurs who came in this occasion.
