HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 14 (acn) Renowned US critics and artist Robert Storr said in Havana that the people of The Americas share common grounds and the United States should recall its history not to repeat mistakes, since the US people also suffered under colonial rule.
Torr spoke during sessions of the Cuban International Congress of Art Critics in which he expressed his respect towards the people of Cuba. He said he feels deep empathy with the artists of this island as he evoked his first memories about the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
The US artist, who was the dean of the Yale University Arts School, is one of the guests at the Cuban forum, underway at Havana´s Fine Arts Museum.
Arts stand for dialog not monolog and the and the duty of critics is that of putting things in impartial and easy-to-understand language so that those who are not experts understand the colors of creation, Storr said.
Havana University professor Yolanda Wood said that creators and thinkers in the Caribbean area offer a territory of freedom to think of a better future. She said that in this part of the world artists and their indigenous have turned back to nature with what she called a new focus based on culture of resistance.
According to public information, Torr has been described as "an artist who's logged enough studio time to have a special regard for painters' painters ... and a gifted writer who can make us appreciate them, too." and a "vital link between the museum world and academia.
