HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (acn) Cuba and the United States will talk in Havana on Friday about Human Rights (HR), one of the recurrent topics in bilateral relations.
The deputy director general for Multilateral Issues and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), Pedro Luis Pedroso, announced by way of his account in Twitter the taking place of the second Cuba-U.S.A. round of talks about HR.
A year and a half after the previous meeting, Havana and Washington will return to the negotiating table to talk about differences in the approach of the human rights issue, in its implementation at a national level and internationally.
The two governments have differences in perceptions and the balance between civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.
Cuba has reiterated that it approaches HR in an indivisible and comprehensive way and does not assume that one has superior value over another.
It is positive that, in the recognition of differences, the delegations of the two countries are capable of holding civilized talks on this issue on the basis of equality and respect.
The talks on HR are the result of a Cuban proposal made in July, 2014, which was reiterated in January, 2015, when meetings for the reestablishment of diplomatic relations began and that was accepted by U.S. authorities.
Havana and Washington have tackled since December 17, 2014, numerous topics of bilateral and multilateral interest, have signed 12 agreements referred to the environment, mail service, regular direct flights, maritime navigation security, agriculture and security for travelers, trade and telecommunications.
The first meeting on HR between Cuba and the United States, held on March 31, 2015, took place on reciprocal basis and without any discrimination whatsoever and the methodological bases for possible future rounds of talks and debates on this issue were discussed.
