HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 30 (acn) In an effort to stop indiscipline related to waste of fuel oil by drivers of state-owned vehicles in Cuba, particularly cargo trucks, authorities have imposed the use of GPS equipment, which has resulted into an effective measure.
Recent information released by the head of the Truck Fleet Control Group in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus reveals that fuel waste was calculated at over 568 tons a year and after GPS equipment were installed that waste has disappeared.
The measure has been in force since 2009 and its now protecting 23 cargo truck bases in the central province, according to Jose Luis Rodriguez, who heads the local control group.
The fuel used to move one million tons of cargo along one kilometer was calculated at 29 tons before r GPS were installed, but now that figured was lowered to 20 tons, said the directive, who did not mentioned the reasons of the waste.
Now the strict control of the trucks on the road supervises position, itinerary, speed and working time.
