HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 5 (acn) Cuba's Meteorology Institute (INSMET) and Panama's Electricity Transmission Company S.A. signed on Thursday in this capital an agreement for scientific and technical cooperation on climate issues.
The documents were signed by Celso Pazos, head of INSMET, and Edilberto Bolívar Esquivel, Panamanian director of Hydrometeorology, who stressed the alliance that promotes studies of variability and climate forecasting to develop new applications for health, energy and food and nutrition security.
Esquivel, also Permanent Representative of Panama to the World Meteorological Organization, recalled that climate change is a reality, so it is necessary to get ready in all areas of knowledge.
The Panamanian official highlighted Cuba's scientific potential, describing it as of very high level, so that his country is interested in further learning and increasing the capabilities of both nations in economically productive activities.
Pazos ratified Cuba's willingness to establish in the future new lines of cooperation with the Panamanian nation.
Among the objectives of the current agreement we find the development of educational and research programs at the international level, the exchange of experts, and quality control and management of hydro-meteorological variables.
The signing of the document took place at the Environment Agency of Cuba's Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
