HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 20 (acn) Cuban Arlenis Sierra, bronze medalist in the points race event of this year´s track world championship and member of the UCI World Cycling Centre in Switzerland, won the 27th edition of the Women´s Tour de Bretagne, in France.
Arlenis, 23 and only Cuban cyclist that will compete in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, continued to prove her progress and practically swept through the competition, by winning the final general classification, points classification and youth (U-23) ranking.
It was a four-stage tour, with category 2.2 of the International Cycling Union (UCI by its french acronym) and Sierra won two of them, the first and third.
In the final general classification, she surpassed Belgian Ann-Sophie Duyck in 53 seconds and British Claire Rose in 1 minute.
The final stage, 112, 6 km, was won in a frenzy sprint by Italian Ilaria Sanguineti while Sierra, with victory already on her pocket, did not want to risk and finished seventh.
The contest was attended by 95 athletes, many of them qualified for Rio 2016.
With her victory in the French Tour, Arlenis completed an excellent preparation for the Olympics, performance that included the afforementioned third seat in the points race event of this year´s world track championship, the crown at the Tour of Costa Rica, a silver medal in the Pan American Championship of Táchira, Venezuela, and she also finished third in the prestigious Tour of San Luis, Argentina, where she won the last stage.
