HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 2 (acn) Salvador Sanchez, president of El Salvador, will take part in the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) that began on Thursday in this capital in the segment of top officials of the organization's member nations.
The president will travel on Friday to Cuba to participate in the meeting that will bring together presidents, heads of state and government, and authorities of the nations of the Association, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.
For El Salvador, the conclave is of great importance because participating nations seek to create strategies to strengthen regional integration and cooperation, preserve environmental integrity and promote the sustainable development of the Caribbean, as well as to boost trade, transport and tourism.
The meeting will also be an opportunity to address some of the common challenges countries of the region are currently facing.
The summit be held until Saturday at the Convention Center and the Palacio de la Revolucion, and brings together representatives of the 25 member nations of the body, the seven associate states, and 21 countries and nine organizations as observers, in addition to other guests.
The ACS is made up by Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.
It is expected that the meeting in Havana is an important political contribution to unity, the defense of the sovereignty of peoples, cooperation and peace in the region, as expressed on Wednesday by Carlos Rafael Zamora, deputy director general for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
