HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 3 (acn) The President of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, Raul Castro, described on Wednesday as successful his state visit to France, Prensa Latina reported.
During a meeting with members of the Cuban embassy, the Mission to UNESCO and representatives of the island's organizations in France, the president referred to the importance of the outcome of negotiations with the Paris Club on the Cuban debt.
In this way, we have taken a step that frees us from the ties it represented for our international trade to acquire credits for investment, taking advantage of the opening that is expressed in this regard in the new investment law, he underlined.
Raul Castro had a busy schedule during his two-day visit, the official program of which ended on Tuesday night, and in which bilateral relations were promoted.
Today we open a new page in ties between both countries, said François Hollande, President of the French Republic, while referring to the signing of a bilateral economic route sheet in sectors such as tourism and transport, while adding that the French nation is among the major trading partners of the island.
The Head of State stressed that all this was made possible by the agreement reached on December 12 between Cuba and the Paris Club concerning the treatment of the Cuban debt.
For his part, Raul Castro highlighted that the two countries are linked by historic and cultural ties, and by deep bonds of friendship.
This is the first state visit of a Cuban president to France and to a member nation of the European Union. It reaffirms the excellent state of relations and reflects the shared willingness to strengthen political dialogue at the highest level, he stated.
He said the bilateral economic agenda signed represents an important joint mechanism for the production, monitoring and promotion of commercial-economic ties for cooperation and investment, in the medium and long term.
Other instruments of bilateral cooperation were signed in various sectors.
Among the agreements he highlighted one relating to the treatment of the island's debt, which was preceded by an agreement on this subject reached on December 12 between Cuba and the Paris Club.
The two parties also signed two declarations of intent. The first one concerning cooperation in tourism and the second one concerning the development of fair trade.
Likewise, a declaration of cooperation between the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and the French Development Agency on negotiations for the establishment and activities of the Agency on the island was signed.
