Latin American heritage should be of its people, says scholar

GRANMA, Cuba, Feb 6 (acn) Pedro Espinoza, specialist of Mateo Salado archaeological complex, in Peru, said in the city of Bayamo, that the best way to preserve the Latin American heritage is making it part of its people.

Espinoza gave a lecture as part of the discussions of the scientific conference "The cultural heritage of the Ibero-American peoples", being held in the capital of the eastern Cuban province of Granma .

This integration is only possible from the implementation of actions that allow communities to feel identified with the archaeological and historical monuments and feel them as their own, Espinoza said.

As they know those sites and their values, they will learn to love them and take care of them.

We must wage a systematic battle for people to see these places as living entities and integrate them into their daily lives, added Espinoza.

It is necessary that these locations have greater public access and that also become true areas of spiritual development through conducting various cultural activities, told the specialist.

This conference meets, since last Monday and until Thursday, experts from Mexico and Peru, along with representatives of all Cuban provinces.

The program includes lectures and workshops on traditional folk culture, museology, architecture and restoration.

The meeting will also deal with topics related to the study of collections and the social dimensions of heritage.
