HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 9 (acn) With the declared aim of promoting and increasing trade links between Cuba and Panama, the President of the Republic of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, arrived in this capital on an official visit.
Ana Teresita Gonzalez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, received him at Havana's the Jose Marti International Airport.
Varela, who traveled with a group of businessmen from his country, plans to hold official talks with Army General Raul Castro, President of the Councils of State and Ministers. His program in Havana also includes a visit to the Latin American Medical School and meetings with other Cuban political authorities, like the President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, Esteban Lazo.
The President of the Republic of Panama described as historic relations between his country and Cuba and said that his presence will strengthen bonds between the two nations.
In statements to the press, Varela announced that, during his three-day stay, authorities of both governments will sign an agreement on the topic of immigration.
Likewise, he pointed out that he brings several interests, among them cooperation, trade, and bilateral and multilateral issues.
