HAVANA, Cuba, June 6 (acn) Focused on the analysis of the challenges of cyber-security and Internet governance, the International Conference "New scenarios of political communication in the digital realm" continued on Saturday in this capital.
In yesterday's sessions, participants in the meeting discussed topics as complex as the generation of contents for the Internet and defended the idea of regional integration through mechanisms such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to overcome the hegemony of neo-liberal ideas in this aspect.
Cuban and foreign experts also discussed how to articulate the growth of social networks with the development of a culture of resistance which, from left-wing positions, promotes a different communication.
Participants in the International Conference declared themselves to be in favor of developing international legal instruments that regulate the use of cyberspace and called for the adoption of a common stance on this issue.
Fighting against cyberspace militarization, the covert and illegal use of computer systems to attack other states, cyber-crime, cyber-terrorism and espionage on governments and entire societies, was the position defended by Senen Casas, secretary of Cuba's Council of Computerization and Cyber-security.
The island promotes the peaceful and legitimate use of information and communication technologies (ICT), and the many opportunities offered by cyberspace for the development and welfare of mankind.
In this sense it was reaffirmed that the Cuban government is determined to carry out a process of computerization of society, in an orderly, regulated and secure way, in the interest of satisfying the growing need for information and services of the people.
With the presence of over 200 delegates, including experts from 34 countries, discussions on Saturday also focused on information and communication technologies.
Organized by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Conference, which winds up on Sunday at Havana's Convention Center, aims to achieve results that serve as valid reference to follow up on the World Summit of Information Society held a decade ago and to this end exchanges that arise will be collected by the meeting's secretary and forwarded to the United Nations.
