HAVANA, Cuba, May 7 (acn) JetBlue Airlines announced that starting from July 3 it will make a weekly New York-Havana flight, although U.S. citizens won't be able to travel as tourists, due to the restrictions of the blockade.
Tickets for this flight operated by JetBlue from the John F. Kennedy International Airport to Havana's Jose Marti International Airport can be purchased through the charter trips agency Cuban Travel Services (CTS), the www.cubasi.cu Web site reported on Thursday.
"Our first flight from the JFK to Cuba offers a new option of flying directly from New York, where today many Cubans live," reads a press release by the president and chief executive of JetBlue, Robin Hayes.
The announcement of the new flight takes place a few weeks after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo concluded a commercial mission to Cuba in search of opportunities for companies of the region interested in investing in the Caribbean island.
"I congratulate JetBlue for becoming the first big airline to announce a direct flight between New York and Cuba in this new era between our nations," concludes the communique by Governor Cuomo.
