Cuba receives donation of photovoltaic systems

HAVANA, Cuba, November 11 (ACN) In an act of solidarity and bilateral cooperation, Cuba received a donation from the government of the People's Republic of China consisting of 5,000 domestic photovoltaic systems, intended to provide basic electricity to homes in isolated areas lacking access to the national grid.

Hua Xin, China's ambassador to Cuba, emphasized that this donation is not just a set of technological equipment, but "a bridge of collaboration between both nations" and a reflection of the spirit of mutual support.

He also highlighted that the assistance will provide stable and clean energy support, crucial for the recovery of eastern Cuba, recently affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Each donated system has a generation capacity of approximately two kilowatt-hours (kWh), considered the average minimum daily consumption of a home.It is composed of four 630W panels, which generate approximately 2.5 kWh under optimal sunlight conditions, and a 280 amp-hour (Ah) battery, which guarantees power supply at night or on cloudy days.

This will allow beneficiary families to use essential appliances such as lamps, refrigerators, televisions, and fans, significantly improving their quality of life, specialists explained during the technical presentation. Argelio Jesus Abad Vigoa, First Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, expressed his gratitude for the donation and reaffirmed the commitment to distribute and install the systems as quickly as possible.

"We know what it means to bring light to people who have never had electricity at night," he stated, emphasizing the project's social impact.

This is the second donation of its kind, following an initial delivery of 5,000 systems in 2022.

Energy cooperation between Cuba and China also includes larger-scale projects, such as the construction of photovoltaic solar parks.

A five-megawatt (MW) park will be inaugurated in Artemisa on Wednesday, November 12, and progress is being made on a second phase of 85 MW planned for next year.

This joint program stands as a fundamental pillar in the Cuban strategy to develop a cleaner, more sustainable and sovereign energy sector.
