SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) The mitigation of the accumulated impacts of nature is a priority in the central province of Villa Clara, where the application of quality management systems guides the processes of environmental inspection and the granting of authorizations to activities that comply with the regulations to protect the environment.
Yuniey Quiala Armenteros, head of the Office of Environmental Regulation and Safety (ORSA by its Spanish acronym) in the province, told the press that the team under her charge maintains strict control over hazardous waste and installations with biological risks, without failing to attend to indisciplines that affect flora, fauna and other natural resources.
The entity carries out a constant follow-up of investment processes and the consultation of micro-locations, in addition to promoting the training of new economic actors on environmental regulations and participating in the execution of international projects aligned with Cuban environmental guidelines, he explained.
In the territory, he stated, there are 85 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises of interest for regulatory control, extended to the economic actors themselves, and a surveillance system has been implemented on emissions and transfers of pollutants, in accordance with the resolutions in force.
The specialist indicated that Villa Clara has 136 priority entities obliged to submit a sworn statement on hazardous waste, marine and terrestrial water pollutants, atmospheric emissions and solid waste disposal sites; however, of this total, only 113 have declared their environmental situation.
The state environmental inspection is coordinated with agencies such as the Villa Clara Customs, the Forest Ranger Corps, the Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, the branch of the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urbanism, the Integral Supervision Directorate and the National State Inspection Office, among others.
Founded in 1996, the Center for Environmental Studies and Services of Villa Clara (CESAM by its Spanish acronym) has established itself as a reference institution in the central region of Cuba, developing research, monitoring ecosystems, promoting environmental education and providing technical advice to strengthen sustainable environmental management in the province.
