HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17(ACN) The José Antonio Echeverría Technological University of Havana (CUJAE) opened its doors Monday to new students willing to engage in projects of love, fidelity and humanism despite the impact of the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
In view of the hardship imposed by the said unilateral U.S. Cuba policy, each school year becomes a challenge for this university, which teaches 13 degree courses and five higher technical training programs, according to CUJAE rector Martha Dunia Delgado Dapena.
“The blockade has a huge impact on Cuban universities, as evidenced by their infrastructural conditions, lack of equipment and school supplies, transportation problems, and shortage of human resources,” she remarked. “Although the Cuban state allocates a yearly budget, larger so this year than in 2023, this genocidal policy hinders the acquisition of the technology required to put our knowledge into practice. For instance, CUJAE provides various services abroad that many universities and enterprises are prevented from paying for directly, and our researchers have been unable to publish their work in prestigious foreign journals simply because Cuba is on the unilateral list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism”.
However, as the official pointed out, CUJAE manages to wangle its way out of the situation, always grateful to friendly institutions and individuals who lend a hand to the school and the country in general with donations that make it possible to get essential electronic components for its technical degree courses.
“In the meantime, CUJAE will keep offering a high-quality educational service focused on technology and innovation and playing a major role in Cuba's socioeconomic development,” she concluded.
