HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 4 (acn) Cuban and British experts in the field of finances are addressing strategies for the prevention and fight against money laundry and the sponsoring of terrorism during a workshop underway in Havana till February 5.
The action is based on new recommendations by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), according to a news release by the Cuban Central Bank.
The workshop is considered the second stage of a joint initiative by the British embassy in Havana, the International Governance and Risk Institute (GovRisk) and Cuba´s Central Bank. The objective of the event is to exchange on the best international practice in the field.
The workshop agenda includes measures to prevent, detect, investigate and process acts related to money laundry and the financing of terrorism.
Some 25 officials with the Cuban Finance Intelligence Unit and from other institutions are participating in the forum, which sponsored by the British Foreign Ministry.
British ambassador to Havana, Tim Cole, said that his government supports the technical assistance project, since money laundry and the financing of terrorism are both threats beyond borders and it is necessary to reinforce legal, judicial and security systems both at the national and international levels.
