HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 15 (acn) US companies ready to back at Congress the regulations that the White House is expected to announce with the aim of easing commercial ties with Cuba, according to reports by the US media.
According to The Hill newspaper spokespersons with the business sector expect to see growing support at the US Congress of Barack Obama´s decision to change Washington´s policy towards the island, as more Americans are allowed to travel here.
An article signed by The Hill´s journalist Lydia Wheeler explains that the US President is taking a historic decision by making use of his executive power, although some transformations will have to face hurdles in Congress.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently said that the reestablishment of commercial exchange with Cuba would translate into an opportunity for US farmers with a new market near US borders.
Presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama announced on December 17 the beginning of a process to reestablish diplomatic relations between their countries, which were broken by Washington over 50 years ago.
Obama said he would take steps to increase trade exchange, ease travel permits for American citizens to Cuba and order a study to withdraw Cuba from the US blacklist of states sponsors of international terrorism.
He also expressed his willingness to work with the US Congress to eliminate the main obstacle against the normalization of bilateral relations, which is the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for over half a century now.
