Cuba marks 50th Anniversary of Translator and Interpreter Services

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister ( MINREX by its Spanish acronym), marked today the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Translators and Interpreters Services Team (ESTI by its Spanish acronym).

On X, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the work of the institution founded at the initiative of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, and acknowledged the professionalism, dynamism and contribution to Cuban foreign policy of its members.

ESTI was created on October 23, 1973 as a result of Agreement No. 306, adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, in response to the need for a group of qualified translators and interpreters who could provide these services in any kind of national or international events.

As of October 4, 2012, it was placed under the subordination of MINREX, as assigned budgeted unit, since when it has been working together in the design and implementation of a strategy for the improvement and development of translators and interpreters.

Translation services cover certificates, public documents, economic, legal, scientific-technical, cultural, journalistic and medical documents in 14 languages.
