HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (acn) Latin America is no exception to the enormous economic and social gaps between developing and developed countries, and remains the most unequal region in the world, said Miguel Diaz-Canel, first vice president of Cuba in the XXIV Ibero-American Summit.
Diaz-Canel delivered a speech at the final session of the event which concluded Tuesday in Veracruz, attended by 16 heads of state or government of the 22 member countries, although Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Venezuela were also represented at a high level.
He said that will not be possible to lay the foundations for development without progress in access to education, culture and innovation, significant areas for eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, increasing opportunities and reducing indices of social exclusion.
He stressed that Cuba has fulfilled almost all Millennium Development Goals, despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US, and thanked the pronouncements made in that event against these policies and for the exclusion of Cuba from the list of of countries that sponsor terrorism released by the United States.
The Declaration of Veracruz "Education, Innovation and Culture in a Changing World", the Program of Action, the resolution on the Ibero-American Conference and 11 special letters on various topics were adopted at the XXIV Ibero-American Summit.
