HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) More than 1.7 million students will begin the 2022-2023 school year on Monday, November 28, including students in the province of Pinar del Rio(westernmost province), which was severely affected by Hurricane Ian, said Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella, minister of education, at a press conference.
During a press conference, she assured that this school period will have a shorter duration, as it will end in June 2024, and it will be the last course where curricular adaptations will be applied.
Velazquez Cobiella explained that the week of November 21 to 25 is not a school recess but serves as a transition between courses.
Although attendance will not be compulsory, she commented, primary and special education schools will remain open not only to care for the children of working mothers, but also to offer content consolidation, as well as to carry out sports and cultural activities.
As of the 2023-2024 school year, we will return to the regular school calendar, which begins on the first Monday of September and ends in June of the following year, the minister concluded.
