Havana—The president of Pakistan´s Parliament Sardar Ayas said in Havana on Wednesday that his country is grateful to Cuban solidarity over the past 50 years as he attended a Cuba-Pakistan bilateral parliamentary meeting.
The top Pakistani diplomat stressed Cuban health cooperation in 2005, when the doctors with the Henry Reeves medical brigade assisted the victims of an earthquake that rocked that country, where they saved over two thousand lives.
Sardar, who also heads the Cuba Solidarity Group at the Pakistani Parliament, said that his government is very pleased with his visit to the island.
Meanwhile, Cuban Parliament president Esteban Lazo thanked Pakistan for its support of the Caribbean nation against the US blockade at the most recent vote by the UN General Assembly demanding the lifting of the anti-Cuba policy.
Lazo said that Sarda´s visit, which will conclude on Saturday, will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the parliaments of the two countries.
In 2015, Cuba and Pakistan will mark the 60 th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Precisely next year, some 500 Pakistani doctors will graduate from Cuban medical schools.
