HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (acn) Cuba is implementing a national plan to prevent and fight the Ebola fever virus, aimed at consolidating health measures that guarantee preparation to minimize risks of introduction, transmission and consequences of that epidemic.
Doctor Jose Angel Portal, First Deputy Minister of Public Health, emphasized on Wednesday in this capital that to achieve this goal a group of actions are developed, together with the General Staff of the Civil Defense, the rest of organizations of the State central administration and social sectors.
In the Technical Meeting of Specialists and Executives for the Prevention and Fight against Ebola, under way until Thursday at Havana's Convention Center with representatives of 32 countries, Portal announced the creation of a work group to monitor and assess the national and international situation round the clock.
Its general principles are aimed at guaranteeing protection in the country's border, in points of entry, in order to contain its introduction by way of a strengthened control at airports, ports and marinas, in correspondence with the International Sanitary Regulations, he stressed.
It provides for the organization of medical attention for the various levels of the system; and the fitting out of medical institutions to look after cases exposed to risk, and of suspected patients.
Human resources in the field of health will be trained in the prevention diagnose and treatment of Ebola, as well as executives, officials and staff of other sectors of the economy.
Likewise, it is essential to guarantee preparation in measures of surveillance and protection to diplomats and voluntary workers and Cuban residents abroad, presently living in countries where there's risk to contract the disease or transmit it, he commented.
