HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 6 (acn) The resident coordinator of the United Nations System to Cuba, Mirta Kaulard, acknowledged on Monday the efforts of the island's government to develop infrastructures for the use of renewable energy.
During the first session of the International Workshop "Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development: the case of the gasification of Biomass," at Havana's Convention Center, the official pointed out that this willingness should be expanded to many developing nations.
The plant created with that purpose in the Isle of Youth, she said, shows that joint responsible work gives good results and contributes to re-incorporate and boost the economic development of territories assuming that initiative.
We're talking about a thermo-chemical process in which biomass, normally of woody origin, is transformed into combustible gas, which adds more value to energy generation.
The combustible gas obtained can be used in different ways, by way of combustion processes to produce electricity and/or thermal energy, or as synthesis gas, transforming into products of higher added value.
