Renowned Ecclesiastical Activist Presents Book in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 6 (acn) Michael Lapsley, renowned ecclesiastical activist and close friend of Cuba, presented on Friday in this capital his autobiographical book Reconciliarse con el pasado: Un camino desde la lucha por la libertad hacia la sanacion.

The presentation of the book took place at Havana's Friendship Center and was part of the program of activities of the World Campaign of Solidarity with The Five and against Terrorism under way since Thursday in 38 nations.
Father Lapsley, Vice-president of the Council of Churches of South Africa and spokesperson of the cause of the Cuban heroes in different forums, said that bringing the book to Cuba is a dream come true, and thanked the persons that took part in the publishing process.
Lapsley was one of the tireless fighters against Apartheid, and in 1990, a week after visiting Cuba, the South African government sent him a letter bomb that caused him the loss of his hands, one eye and other injuries.
On several occasions, Father Lapsley has visited Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cubans unfairly incarcerated in the United States, two of which are already in Cuba after serving their sentences: Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez.
Attending the presentation of the book were the members of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party Jorge Risquet and Caridad Diego, who is the head of the Office for Religious Affairs, in addition to other officials and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the island.
