Heavy rains cause serious flooding in Cuban eastern province

HOLGUIN, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) Floods in areas near rivers, people evacuated and power outages were the result of heavy rains that affected this weekend the municipality of Banes, in the province of Holguin.

The main damages are found in the Centro Ciudad Sur Popular Council, vulnerable to these weather conditions, which has 17 houses affected by the penetration of the waters and no loss of human lives is reported.

Guillermo Calzadilla Rodriguez, secretary of the Municipal Administration Council, referred to the web page of the newspaper ¡Ahora! that the government authorities immediately carried out an evaluation of the damages and the state of the 23 people evacuated due to the storm.

He emphasized that as part of the recovery actions, work is being carried out to reestablish the electric service in the locality, as well as the determination of the epidemiological risks by the sanitary authorities.

We are also extending the commercialization of food and hygiene products, the replacement of basic food basket supplies and the sanitation of drains and sewers to reestablish the water supply, Calzadila stated.
