Cuban eastern province holds Grand Retreta dedicated to Mexico

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) With the title "Colors of Mexico", the Provincial Concert Band of Holguin is preparing a great retreta for this Sunday at the Calixto Garcia Park, under the baton of the Mexican composer Luis Koyoc.

Koyoc, who is currently in charge of the homologous group in the Mexican state of Yucatan, commented to the Cuban News Agency that this great presentation is a gift for the whole family and is a tribute to the centenary Holguin Band, directed by maestro Humberto Pino.

The retreta will interpret themes of popular and academic music from different areas of Mexico, as well as several authors who have marked an important guideline in the cultural development of that nation, with emphasis on the Yucatecan trova.

This is one of the first experiences with Mexican music performed by a band in Cuba, because it will also be a special moment to blend the rhythms and sonorities of Cuba and Mexico, countries of great cultural richness.

The retreta is one of the most important activities carried out in the province to celebrate the centenary of the Holguin Concert Band, which was celebrated on October 10 by this distinguished institution of Cuban history and culture.

Luis Koyoc began his artistic career in popular music with the interpretation of jarana, big band, salsa and cumbia ensembles; then he entered the Escuela Superior de las Artes, where he specialized in academic saxophone and orchestral conducting.
