Havana, Sept 16 (ACN) The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) is a regional political integration organization in full reactivation amidst a complex scenario, as described by deputy foreign minister Anayansi Rodriguez.
As the organization holds its 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government Saturday, September 18, deputy minister Rodriguez referred to the challenges and main issues to be dealt with during the forum.
CELAC has undergone difficult moments, but important enough is its capacity to preserve its essence during all these years, as Mexico has played a crucial role over the past 20 months as pro-tempore chair of the regional bloc, said Rodriguez as cited by the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website.
The diplomat recalled that unity has allowed facing and sorting out complex scenarios as CELAC has not failed to play its role as a mechanism of integration founded in 2010.
The CELAC agenda will be topped by the COVID-19 pandemic with a look at ways to achieve sanitary self-sufficiency as a region; the debates will also focus on issues like keeping the region’s condition as a zone of peace; the first world region highly populated and free of nuclear weapons; general disarmament; the fight on poverty and inequality, while the forum will also target issues relevant to climate change in order to prepare the 26th Conference of the Parties to take place in the U.K.
Cuba on its part is willing to contribute to all CELAC efforts so that the region counts on a project and initiatives that allow universal access to COVID-19 vaccines at affordable prices. Cuba is happy to participate in the joint effort and contribute to the distribution and supply of vaccines and services that guarantee the people’s universal access, said the deputy minister.
