HAVANA, Cuba, July 29 (ACN) The president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, and Mr. Hoshino Yoshitaka, Executive Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), met Wednesday in an online meeting to discuss the interests of both nations.
During the meeting, the President of the Chamber talked about the sectors that Cuba currently prioritizes, such as food production, renewable energy and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and emphasized the possibility of increasing the presence of nutritional supplements for the Japanese market.
Carricarte also referred to the need to seek alternatives to trade between both countries due to the pressures and financial persecution of the U.S. blockade, and mentioned some of the measures that the Caribbean country is implementing to boost economic development.
For his part, Mr. Hoshino acknowledged the efforts made by Cuba in the fight against COVID-19, while proposing to hold a webinar to explain to Japanese entrepreneurs the business opportunities offered by the island.
The Japanese side also suggested the registration of Cuban companies in the virtual platform TTPP (Trade-up Promotion Program) in order to obtain contracts with entities of the Japanese country.
JETRO, in the current context of the pandemic, seeks a better way to do business online with Latin American countries, including Cuba, and thus shorten the prevailing geographical distance.
Despite the fact that the organization does not have an office in Cuba, its website publishes extensive and updated information on the Caribbean country, as a reference for Asian companies.
