Cuba supports two-state solution in Palestine at the United Nations

HAVANA, Cuba, July 30 (ACN) According to a report of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its YouTube channel, Cuba reaffirmed its historic support for the Palestinian people and firmly denounced the Israeli actions against their rights for more than seven decades.

Speaking at the High-Level International Conference for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations, the Cuban delegates endorsed the statements made by Uganda and Venezuela on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, respectively.

Cuba, the report stresses, demanded a far-reaching, just, and lasting solution based on the creation of two states, the recognition of the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital and the return of refugees as essential conditions.

The Cuban delegation also attended the extraordinary ministerial meeting of The Hague Group, a multilateral forum that seeks to promote specific actions regarding the situation in Gaza, where the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people were denounced, including apartheid, collective punishment, and genocide, as crimes leading up to an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

In this regard, Cuba criticized the position of the United States government for systematically vetoing Security Council resolutions aimed at halting the massacre and facilitating humanitarian access, emphasized that Palestine must be granted UN member status, and called on the international community to accelerate the reconstruction of Gaza and ensure the safe return of displaced persons.

“Concrete actions are urgently needed to stop the ongoing genocide and guarantee the vital work of UNRWA”, warned Yuri Gala López, Cuba's Alternate Permanent Representative to the United Nations. "Justice for Palestine cannot wait any longer”.
