HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (ACN) Josefina Vidal, Cuban deputy foreign minister, is leading the Cuban delegation attending the commemorative activities for the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence, the foreign ministry announced today.
According to a statement published on the institution's website, during her working visit, from June 24 to 26, Vidal will also hold a program of meetings with her Mozambican counterpart.
Cuba and Mozambique will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on August 27, established shortly after the East African country declared its independence on June 25, 1975.
The nation emerged under the leadership of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) and its founding president, Samora Machel.
Cuban foreign ministry's statement emphasizes that Mozambique's independence marked the end of Portuguese colonial rule and paved the way for the construction of a sovereign nation committed to the ideals of progress and social justice of its people.
