World voices advocate for international medical cooperation at the UN Human Rights Council

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 20 (ACN) A group of 64 countries raised their voices at the UN Human Rights Council in support of international medical cooperation and against its politically motivated obstruction.

In a statement read by Cuba, the nations highlighted the fundamental role of this collaboration in guaranteeing the right to health and saving millions of lives worldwide, Cuban foreign ministry's website reported.

The statement firmly rejected any attempt to deprive people of the benefits of international medical solidarity, placing special emphasis on the need to avoid unilateral coercive measures that restrict the supply of medicines and medical equipment.

The multilateral statement, supported by countries from all regions, called for strengthening international medical assistance programs to improve health services, serve the neediest, and contribute to the training of health professionals.

It comes in response to the U.S. government's campaign against Cuban medical cooperation, which several countries have denounced as an attack on multilateralism and an extension of the hostile policy toward the island, even at the cost of harming millions of people who benefit from the humanitarian work of Cuban health professionals.
