Havana, March 21 (ACN) The US Donald Trump administration announced on Friday the revocation of the temporary legal status for over 530 thousand Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans.
The measure, to go be implemented as of April 24, kills the so called “humanitarian parole” granted under Joe Biden to those persons so that they could enter US territory legally and stay for a two-year period at most.
The Parole program tried to stop irregular migration to the US from the above-mentioned Latin American nations, while the Trump’s move will submit hundreds of thousands of people to an uncertain condition with the actual risk of being deported if they do not present a different legal status, such as an application for asylum or the Temporary Protection Status.
On March 25, the Federal Register will publish an advisory on the program known as the CHNV (Initials of the affected nations) so that people under probation without any legal reason to stay in the US leave the territory before their authorization expires.
Activists say that the Trump’s decision reveals a harsh reality because it is not about deporting criminals or undocumented migrants, but more than that, the move will deprive persons from their legal status, particularly those ones who entered the Us in a regular and orderly manner.
