SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 10 (ACN) As part of the Action Plan of the United Nations System (UNS) to help the people of Cuba, the first of four flights with basic supplies valued at more than USD 600,000 arrived in this city thanks to a joint effort by UNDP, FAO, PAHO and UNICEF together with the European Union (EU).
Funded by the EU with the support of the UN Humanitarian Response Depot, managed by the World Food Program, the flights will bring 94 tons of medical supplies, water storage tanks, hygiene and tool kits, chlorine tablets, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, solar lamps and other materials to contribute to improve the living conditions and the health, water, sanitation and hygiene systems affected by recent hurricanes in Cuba.
Beatriz Johnson, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and of the Council of State and first secretary of the Party in the province, thanked the aforesaid international agencies on behalf of the Cuban people.
