HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (ACN) The 29th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba was welcomed at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp (CIJAM), in the western municipality of Caimito, where it will celebrate with Cubans the 98th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on August 13.
Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), thanked the activists for their presence as a significant sign of support to a country that is resisting the economic blockade imposed and intensified as never before by the United States with its policy of maximum pressure against the Revolution.
You will exchange with the population, you will visit institutions, you will know that the people are resisting, they will not give up, they will continue fighting and will get ahead with a lot of effort, sacrifice and with the support of international solidarity, he expressed to the 57 brigadistas from Argentina, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Colombia.
Gonzalez Llort called on activists to support next year in Mexico the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Meeting and the first face-to-face meeting of the Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba, where work proposals and projections will be considered for the celebration in 2026 of the centenary year of Fidel's birth.
The 29th edition of the Latin American and Caribbean collective includes the Maximo Gomez Dominican Brigade on its 30th anniversary; and a group of the Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba, which is celebrating its 34th anniversary, led by Roberto Payano.
The contingent's program will conclude with a tribute to Fidel that will begin on the 12th with a conference on his thought and legacy, a solidarity meeting and a celebration in the evening in anticipation of the arrival of August 13, a day that will be dedicated to a great day of volunteer work.
