Havana, Jun 25 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez appreciated a statement by his Trinidadian counterpart Amey Browne against the US blacklisting of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism and in favor of the definitive lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation.
Trinidad-Tobago keeps its firm stance in favor of the withdrawal of Cuba from the list and that the embargo against Cuba should be lifted, said Browne in a meeting with Cuban ambassador Gustavo Daniel Veliz at Foreign Ministry, Rodriguez wrote on X. https://shorturl.at/j30mJ
Minister Browne said that his government’s position has consistently been put forth in several forums, including the United Nations, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
The Trinidadian official said that restrictions imposed on Cuba have negatively impacted the island’s commercial relations and as a consequence the standard of living of the Cuban people.
On December 8, 1972, Cuba established full diplomatic relations with Guyana, Trinidad-Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica. These Caribbean states decided to formalize and strengthen bilateral ties with Havana after they got their independence from British rule.
