Cuba hails election of new Mexican president

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 3 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel saluted the result of the Sunday elections in Mexico, after which Claudia Sheinbaum became the first woman ever to be president of that country.

The Cuban leader wished his new counterpart success in her mandate and reasserted the island’s willingness to keep strengthening the bonds of friendship between both nations.

On his end, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez congratulated Sheinbaum on her victory and reiterated his country's wish to increase trade relations, cooperation, solidarity and friendship with Mexico.

The result was confirmed early this morning by Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) with the announcement that Claudia Sheinbaum got between 58.3 and 60.7 % of the votes, ahead of her contender Xóchitl Gálvez, who received 26.6 to 28.6 %.
