Havana, May 10 (ACN) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted by overwhelming majority of its 193 member states a resolution granting Palestine more participation rights in the organization and called on the Security Council to reconsider Palestine’s full-fledge membership
The document reads that a Palestinian state qualifies to be a UN member and suggests the Security Council to reconsider in a favorable way that nation’s full-fledge membership, according to the regional TV chain Telesur.
The new approach, sponsored by Spain, Irland, Norway and Belgium, goes beyond the current observer status of Palestine as non-member, and recognizes new rights for Palestine’s participation at the General Assembly.
Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riad Mansur, said that the resolution backs the right of his people to live in peace and sovereignty and that it does not run against any state, in direct reference to Israel.
