Diaz-Canel participates in Eurasian Economic Supreme Council



HAVANA, Cuba, May 8 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel is participating today in the expanded plenary session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the Grand Kremlin Palace.

“The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of #Cuba and President of the Republic, @DiazCanelB, is in the Grand Kremlin Palace, to participate in the expanded plenary of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.”

The Presidency informed in X that Kazakhstan, the most recently incorporated country, will also take part in the debate, represented by its president, Kasim Yomart Tokáev, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, from Uzbekistan, which, like Cuba, has the status of observer country.

Díaz-Canel arrived in Russia on May 7 with the aim of addressing the priorities of the bilateral agenda, following the re-election of President Vladimir Putin.

The Cuban leader's stay in Russia takes place within the framework of the 64th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba and the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Since taking office as head of state, the Caribbean president has visited that Eurasian nation in 2018, 2019 and 2022.

In December 2023, Díaz-Canel participated virtually in the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which took place in St. Petersburg, where he highlighted Russia's management throughout 2023 as president pro-témpore of the Union's Organs.

Composed of the heads of state of the member countries, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is an organ of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), to whose extended meetings the heads of state of the observer countries and others from the region are invited.
Cuba has been an observer state of the EAEU since December 11, 2020.
