HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (ACN) To commemorate the 30th anniversary of South Africa's freedom, wreaths were laid today at the busts of former president Nelson Mandela and former president of the African National Congress, Oliver Tambo, located in the Caribbean Heroes Park, in Havana.

Yvonne NKwenkwezi Phosa, ambassador of that nation to Cuba, said that the mention of these men evoke fond memories that history will never be able to erase, for being revolutionary leaders who dedicated their lives to fight for freedom.

She added that for her country the presence of these effigies in such a significant park represents a meeting point for the South African and Cuban people, as well as for international delegations.

The ceremony was attended by Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernandez, director general of bilateral affairs from the Cuban foreign ministry; Akram Mohammad Rashid, dean of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba; Nasser Mohamed Ousbo, dean of the African diplomatic corps accredited in Havana.

There were also attending the ceremony, representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba, of the Cuban Friendship Institute; and members of the South African delegation, among others.
